Next month we should see the lifting of all legal restrictions, and that means - hopefully -- people returning to work, social gatherings being free of limitations and all industries opening up once more. As keyworkers that didn't stop throughout the pandemic, it gives us a chance to look at all we have achieved, and how we adapted throughout 2020/21.
The Closures of the Hospitality Sector
Back in March when COVID-19 hit the news, the hospitality sector shut down, alongside other 'non-essential' businesses. To us, hospitality is an essential part of our business, with a high percentage of our clients as pubs, clubs and licensed gaming venues. This had a huge impact on us and our security officers and we had no choice but to introduce the furlough scheme for security officers that were not able to fulfil their contracts due to closures.
As a company that has always put our staff first, this was a difficult decision and we looked for ways to adapt, to bring back our talented workforce in the most proactive way possible.
The introduction of COVID-19 Marshals
This naturally led to us being a great fit at supplying local councils with COVID-19 Marshals. With our security officers already highly trained in being active, vigilant and professional, it was a relatively simple transition. Not only this, but we were incredibly proud of being able to help in the fight against coronavirus in the best way we can -- we even made the news for our efforts!
Manned Guarding for 'Abandoned' Businesses
With furlough levels growing, unemployment levels rising and businesses staying closed for much longer than expected, the risk of vandalism and theft at industrial sites or hospitality venues became heightened. This meant altering the way we work -- with 24/7 mobile patrols or manned guarding instead of what might have been door supervisors. As security experts, we were able to work with the ever-changing needs of clients to provide them with the best possible security for their business.
Adapting Our Ways of Working
Finally, there are the adaptations we have had to make to ensure that our security officers are working as safely as possible. This means with facemasks, social distancing and any other protocols that might be relevant depending on the situation. It also meant finding cover for security officers that might be isolating due to being in contact with someone with COVID-19 or having the virus themselves.
Despite being a challenging year, it's enabled us to grow in confidence, knowing how we can manage during a crisis, and has also led the path towards exciting news changes ahead -- with Carter Staffing Solutions and Carter Consultancy Service just on the horizon.
