There's a lot of similarity between the security industry and boxing: both require discipline, respect and accuracy and speed. It therefore made complete sense for Nick Carter to decide that CSS Ltd will be the official sponsor of local boxer, Grant Froud.

Grant started boxing at the age of 10, where he competed in 16 amateur fights, falling in love with the sport along the way. Having tried Judo and Tae Kwon Do, it was boxing where he excelled and boxing that he enjoyed the most. It wasn't long before his skill became recognised, and he found himself on the verge of boxing for England! An injury to his eye hampered his progress, and a heart problem put a devastating stop to boxing all together. Thankfully, four heart operations later, Grant is again fighting fit and raring to go!

A dedicated training regime has rekindled his love for the sport, and in November 2018, he had his first fight. The next is scheduled to be semi-professional - a huge milestone - and we can't wait to see how he gets on!

Sponsoring Grant has meant providing him with equipment with the CSS Ltd logo, showing we're proud of what he's doing and will encourage him every step of the way! Boxing is a brilliant sport, and many of the qualities that make a great boxer are the same as what makes a great security officer.

  • Discipline

Working in the security industry is hard. It requires extensive training, long shifts, teamwork and commitment. It also requires an individual to conduct themselves in a certain manner when not on shift, and the same can be said for boxing. Boxers need to remain disciplined even when not in the ring. They need to watch what they eat, get enough sleep and stay out of trouble. We want all of our security officers to adopt the same approach to life. It's hugely important to us that our staff are well and look after themselves, and our reputation, even when they aren't in the CSS Ltd uniform.

  • Respect

It goes without saying that our staff have to respect themselves, our clients, the general public and anyone else they might encounter on a shift. The same goes for boxing! Boxers have to respect their opponent, their trainer and their supporters both in and out of the boxing ring. Respect really does play a huge part in the sport of boxing.

  • Accuracy

Boxers have to hit a moving target, and do so accurately! If they throw a punch and miss, that's wasted energy and could compromise their position, so it's hugely important to remain accurate. Our security officers have to be accurate too. They have to be accurate with their reporting and their timekeeping, as well as plenty of other aspects of their role.

  • Speed

Boxers are quick, there's no doubt about that. They're quick on their feet and quick with their hands, but they have to be quick mentally to anticipate their opponent's next move. Security guards have to be quick to react to a situation too, they have to be on the ball 100% of the time, ready to respond to a potential break in, trespasser or conflict.
