I think it's fair to say that winter has arrived. It's cold, it's dark and with Halloween now been and gone we're left with Bonfire Night and then the countdown to Christmas begins. Winter is arguably the most vulnerable time for your business when it comes to security as the nights are longer, and it's much more likely for sites to be unattended and quieter. After all, no one likes to be out and about when it's freezing cold and wet outside! This makes businesses much more vulnerable, so it's hugely important to consider your security agenda at this time of year.
1. Assess the risk
Firstly, you'll need to assess the risk. Consider the location of your business and the size of the site. If it's gated, does it need manned guarding or mobile patrols? Do you need to evaluate where your CCTV cameras are? Is it worth investing in newer alarm systems, or investigating whether or not an alarm response service would be beneficial?
You'll also need to consider your industry. Are you a particularly high burglary risk with high-priced assets behind locked doors, or is the value in the data you hold? Do you have a lot of visitors, whether that's staff, clients or customers, or is it a fairly quiet site? All of these factors will influence the security risk at your business. If you're unsure, we will happily advise you and build a security plan around your needs and your budget.
2. Implement security procedures
The next step is to implement the security you have decided is necessary. Prevention is always the best course of action when it comes to security, and so implementing procedures sooner rather than later should always be your focus.
3. Educate staff
Your staff, clients and customers will need to be made aware of your security presence. That could be with simple signage, or with informing staff and visitors of the need to carry ID whenever they're on site. This demonstrates an awareness of security and that you take their safety seriously.
4. Reassess the risk
Security is an ongoing and ever-changing entity, as the risks your business faces will change over time. It might be that your business relocates, it might be that it grows, or it might be that you take a slightly different direction, meaning more visitors, fewer visitors or different assets. This is why it's important to regularly reassess your security risk. We can work with you to find dynamic security solutions that enable you to be vigilant, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
