This week a member of our team has been on Jury Service, and this has got us thinking about the varying benefits of security guards when it comes to matters at court. Should a robbery, arson attack, or assault take place at your business, having a security officer on the scene should be of benefit to you when looking for justice.
1. Jurors will need to consider the reliability of witnesses
When prosecution and defense barristers are cross-examining a witness, the reliability of that individual will be taken into account by the jury. Questions about their mental state might come into question, or whether that person was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the alleged offense. It goes without saying that Carter Security officers will not be under the influence of drunks and alcohol whilst on shift and that they are trained to operate within the confines of the law. Alongside extensive training and an SIA license, a security officer might have many years of experience in the industry as well, and all of this could result in them being seen as a credible and reliable witness. One other important factor to note is that a contracted security officer would often be seen as a neutral party, they have no reason to lie.
2. All Security Officers will give a written report after their shift
After every shift, whether an incident has taken place or not, our security officers will provide a written report. This is so that we can make note of anything that may have happened, and so the client understands if anything untoward might have occurred too. Should an incident occur, a written account is common practice, it’s something that as security officers, we’re trained to do. This could be used as evidence in a court of law and would be an accurate representation of the events that occurred.
3. The importance of CCTV evidence
Finally, we have the benefit that CCTV gives jurors. All of our security offices are fitted with body cameras, and this is as much for their safety as anyone else. Should an incident occur that a security officer is actively involved in, this will be recorded on their CCTV. However, the benefits do not end there. CCTV provides a reliable account of timings, which could make a big difference to the decision-making about a case.
