With temperatures dipping below freezing this week we wanted to thank our incredible security officers for their continued dedication to keeping our client’s businesses safe! Working in sub-zero temperatures is not an easy task and not something we take lightly either, we know it’s tough and has its own set of challenges.

There are a number of things to consider at this time of year to ensure our security officers are safe and supported.

  • We ensure the personal protective equipment issued is appropriate for use and not damaged. This includes sturdy footwear and Carter Security fleeces and jackets to keep the cold at bay!
  • Our security officers will, where possible, have an indoor space to warm up, and we’d encourage them to drink of warm fluids such as soup or hot drinks.
  • We also ensure our security officers are aware of the early symptoms of cold stress, and how to best avoid

Cold weather brings with it its own set of challenges for security officers.

  • With cold icy mornings, often comes freezing fog, and this greatly reduces visibility. This can make it difficult for mobile patrols to see your business perimeters and reduce the visibility of CCTV as well. Our security officers are trained to combat this, being extra vigilant when visibility is poor. We can also use thermal imagery cameras that recognise body heat, making it impossible for criminals to hide behind a blanket of fog.
  • Icy roads and snowfall can encourage workers to head home early, making your business a target to opportunistic criminals looking to take advantage of a quieter building. We can work with you to change our contracted hours, so they’re extended throughout the winter months, protecting your business when you need it most.

For more information on how we can provide a reliable security service, even when the temperatures drop below zero, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with a member of our team. We look forward to hearing from you.
