If you're considering a career in security and you want to pursue a career for Carter Solutions and Services Limited, it's important to understand exactly what would be expected of you. It's a difficult but rewarding career choice, giving you the responsibility to keep businesses and people safe and give something back to the community.
1.Hold an SIA license
The first step in becoming a security officer is to gain your SIA license. The qualification enables you to work in the private security sector, ensuring that your training is up to a certain standard. All of our security officers need to hold an SIA license.
2.Excellent communication -- verbal and written
Communicating with clients, customers, the wider community and even the police is a huge part of any security officer's role. It's therefore vital that you are able to confidently and competently communicate with different audiences.
Part of the role will also include completing written reports at the end of each shift. It's therefore important that you're confident in your written communication skills too.
3.Dedication and teamwork
At Carter Solutions and Services Limited, we're a team, and that makes working together a hugely important aspect of what we do. Dedication to the role means being reliable and turning on time, ready to work -- no matter what time of day and no matter what the weather.
Teamwork may involve working together during a shift or be willing to step in to cover holiday or sickness. We rely on excellent teamwork to keep our clients satisfied, especially when the safety of someone's business is at stake.
4.Trustworthiness
Whether you're being entrusted with keys as part of our key holding service, or you're representing a company by manned guarding, it's hugely important that you're a trustworthy individual. Security is a serious business, and as a security officer, you're always in a position of trust. You'll be granted access to places other people wouldn't and you'll be trusted to make the right decisions on a daily basis, especially when it comes to crime.
We trust each and every one of our security officers, it's one of the main reasons that we will never subcontract. It's also important that you trust us. We will ensure systems are in place to make sure that you are supported by head office, even if that's from a considerable distance.
5.Be physically fit
Whilst you don't need to be an athlete to pursue a career in security, it's important to have a basic level of fitness that would enable you to patrol a site or be stood for long periods of time. There's also an element of strength required should a security officer need to step in to diffuse a potentially volatile situation. Therefore, being physically fit is a necessary element of the job.
