Tonight is going to be a popular night out for England as fans gather from 7pm to watch The Three Lions take on France. They have to win this game to go through the semi-finals, and understandably passions are running high!
Pre-drinking is expected to commence before kick-off, so fans will be wearing their beer jackets to combat the cold weather! Whether England wins - or dare we say it – loses, it’s going to be a rowdy night in English pubs and clubs across the country. But what does this mean for security?
Our Carter Security guards will be on hand at pubs, clubs bars, and licensed gaming venues, ensuring that anti-social behaviour is managed quickly and professionally. Security guards could be working as door supervisors or undercover security officers, ready to support the general public and your working staff on evenings such as this one.
As well as managing the crowds, our security officers are highly trained in the laws surrounding drinking venues, and that means being able to step in to enforce the ‘Challenge 25’ rules as well as making sure that alcohol consumption isn’t taken to the extreme.
Our security officers are also briefed on the ‘Ask for Angela’ scheme, a scheme that aims to provide a subtle but effective protection for those who find themselves in a compromising position. For example, if someone is being made to feel uncomfortable by another and begins to feel unsafe, they can approach any of our security officers and ‘ask for Angela’. This code phrase would trigger a course of actions to accompany that individual safely off the premises or remove the perpetrator from the building. It might mean calling a taxi and escourting the vulnerable individual out of a side door, or – if it calls for it – calling the local authorities. Our prime goal on any shift is to reduce the risk of crime and provide a safety net to those that need it.
It perhaps comes as no surprise that during football games themselves, levels of crime dips significantly. This includes property crime, violent crime, and drug crime. However, the tide turns very quickly when the match ends – regardless of the outcome. After a football match, levels of crime jump – and often more police officers are deployed to reduce the risk of vandalism and violence once the pubs, clubs, and bars start to empty.
Our security officers – already working within these venues – play a vital role in reducing this risk further and managing unfavourable behaviours to avoid such situations.
