- Test your alarms
We would recommend testing your alarm systems on a specified day each month. You could include your security alarms alongside the testing of your fire alarms, for example. This reduces the risk of faulty alarm systems going unnoticed, and it also advertises to anyone keeping a close eye on your business that you’re security aware and have a working alarm system in place. Testing regularly allows you to be aware of any issues and fix anything that might need fixing. It’s much more effective to build this into your monthly schedule than handle a costly break-in and theft insurance claim!
- Check your CCTV systems
Winter weather can be unkind to any form of electrical equipment, and CCTV systems are no different. Ice, water, and wind can play havoc with technology like CCTV equipment if it isn’t properly maintained, so be sure to not only check that everything is working properly but walk around your property to physically check your cameras too. It might be that they need to be reattached to the building, or have debris moved away from them that could cause damage.
If your business has expanded or downsized over the past year, or if buildings have had a chance of use, you might also want to reconsider moving some of your cameras so they’re best placed concerning security risk.
- Change your security codes
Regularly updating your security codes is something we’d highly recommend. If you have a high turnover of staff or you’ve changed suppliers, you will want to change your access codes, particularly to your entrance and exits, but also to buildings that pose a potential risk.
- Discuss who your keyholders are
If you’re unsure who to designate keyholder responsibilities to, then we’ll be able to help. - Review your fencing and perimeters
In the same way that we’d recommend physically checking your CCTV cameras, we’d also recommend taking a walk around your property and checking your fencing and perimeters. With the warmer weather comes the increased risk of criminals trying to access your property once you’ve locked up and left. Fixing broken barriers and introducing higher fencing is a great way to make accessing your property much more difficult.
- Invest in quality security measures
Finally, we’d advise investing in security measures such as manned guarding or mobile patrols. The best deterrent to crime will always be having trained security guards on site, so we’d recommend you reach out to us to discuss your security needs and budget.
