If you’re looking to advance your career within the security industry, or if you’re looking to begin a security guard position working for one of the industry leaders, knowing how to prepare for an interview is always a brilliant advantage.
In this blog we highlight three key questions you may be asked if you’re invited to interview with us, so you can best prepare ahead of time.
Do you have a valid SIA license?
First and foremost, this will be the most important question, to begin with. In fact, it’s highly unlikely that you’d be invited for an interview without an SIA license. If you’re new to security and you’re not sure what it is, you can find all the information you need on the government website: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-sia-licence
Simply put, it’s a qualification that’s gained from completely various training modules that set out the basic standard of what being a security officer entails. It covers how the law support security officers in their roles, as well as specific training for door supervisors, CCTV, close protection, and keyholding.
What previous experience and/or personal attributes do you have that make you suitable for the role?
Here we’re asking not just about work experience in similar security roles, but about aspects of your personality that support a career in security. It might be that you’re an excellent communicator, that you have a flexible lifestyle to support covering night shifts (for example), or that you have first-hand experience in de-escalation techniques that you know who be beneficial. We’re also looking to hear if you’re a team player, if you’re comfortable with lone working or if you’re confident performing under stressful situations. Rather than giving vague keywords, tell us specific real-life examples of situations you’ve found yourself in, explaining how these experiences make you more suitable for the role you’re applying for.
Why do you want to work for Carter Security?
The field of security is a competitive one, and we’ve worked hard to build a trusted provider of security to industries across the UK. What we want to know from you is why us? Is it because of the location of the role or is it because of the reputation of the company?
Equally, this interview is to see if you can picture yourself working for us. Ask us questions, ask about career progression or training. Ask us anything you like!
