If you're considering applying for a role with Carter Security Solutions, the first step is ensuring that you have a valid SIA license. We take hiring new security officers extremely seriously, as the nature of the role requires remote working, therefore ensuring ever member of the team has an SIA license is the first and most important requirement. It demonstrates a strong basic knowledge of what is expected in a role of security, and covers the below modules.
Common Security Industry Knowledge
Modules include:
- Awareness of the Law in the Private Security Industry
- Health and Safety for the Private Security Operative
- Fire Safety Awareness
- Emergency Procedures
- The Private Security Industry
- Communication Skills and Customer Care
This part of the training covers all of the basics. The first section is critical -- to have an awareness of the law in the security industry. This ensures that security officers know exactly what they're able to do to diffuse a situation, and exactly when it's time to call the police. The final section covers communication. Having strong written and verbal communication skills ensures that security officers are able to build strong and trusting relationships with the client. Exceptional customer care is essential, as we're providing a service and therefore security officers need to always remain professional and approachable.
Security Guarding Specialist Knowledge
Modules include:
- Introduction to the Roles and Responsibilities of Security Officers
- Patrolling
- Access and Egress Control
- Searching
- Technology and Systems in the Security Environment
- The Security Officer and The Law
Communicating, Reporting and Record Keeping
This next module is much more job specific. It covers specific aspects of the role, from patrolling to the technology they would be expected to be competent using. Whilst contracts will differ depending on the needs of the client, it's important for all security personnel to have a basic understanding of what the role involves.
Conflict Management
Modules include:
- Avoiding Conflict and Reducing Personal Risk
- Defusing Conflict
- Resolving and Learning from Conflict
- Application of Communication Skills and Conflict Management for Security Guarding and Close Protection
Finally, we come to conflict management, and this is as much about diffusing a situation to keeping both the security officers and other individuals safe from harm. Communication plays such a huge part in this, and it's important for security officers to demonstrate empathy, as well as confidence in their own ability to resolve a potentially volatile situation.
