If you’re not yet working in the security industry but you’d like to, or you’re looking at progressing your career to work at Carter Security, you might be wondering what it takes to be a successful security officer? We’ve outlined four key points to help with your progression.
Hold a valid SIA license
One of our key values here at Carter Security is that we don’t subcontract staff. Instead, we recruit directly, taking the time to ensure that the individuals that join our team have a position that suits their lifestyle and skillset and that they share our core values too. One of the prerequisites to applying is that you must already hold a valid SIA license.
Be an excellent communicator
It sounds cliché, but communication is key! We can normally get a pretty good idea about the importance someone places on communication through the recruitment process! Communication is such a vital part of a security officer's role. We need to know you’re committed to your shifts, giving plenty of notice if they need to be declined. We also need to know you’re able to communicate with the client if needed, and with members of the general public – depending on the nature of the role. It might be that you’re required to communicate clearly with the local authorities, should an incident arise during your shift that requires their support.
Convey confidence
Being confident in your ability to deescalate a potentially volatile situation. This might be your general presence, your excellent training, and technique, or your years of experience. Please consider that if you’re of a small frame and stature, and you’re not a confident individual, a career in security might not be suitable for you due to the demands of the work involved.
Take pride in your appearance
Finally, there’s how you look. By this, we mean turning up on time and dressed appropriately. We will supply you with the branded uniform needed, but you will need to provide:
- Black trousers
- Black shoes
- White shirt
So, if you’re looking to further your career within the security industry, please check the careers section on our website or email us an up-to-date copy of your C.V. We never subcontract, we invest in training and we work hard to support our staff. We look forward to meeting you.
