No matter how hard you try to protect your building from unauthorised access, it's inevitable that sometimes people will 'slip through the net'. This security breach could be minor, or it could result in a potentially dangerous situation for your staff.

How can unauthorised access happen?

Even if everyone in the building has a personalised key fob, or if there's a security code on the door, unauthorised people can easily gain access.

  1. Tailgating

This seems polite enough. You're sure that person works on the third floor, right? Are they friends with that lady in finance? They're just behind you, and to shut the door on them would be rude! So, you hold the door open for them and they thank you on their way in. Good deed is done for the day... right?

Wrong.

Tailgating plays on the goodness of people hearts to hold the door open for a stranger, but this is a serious security breach as you may have ever-so-politely just let in a criminal!

       1. Propping open doors

It's a warm day, or perhaps, there's a lingering smell of damp and the reception area needs to be aired out. The solution? To prop open the front door. Simple. Well, actually you're inviting in strangers and making the use of key fobs, identity cards or even a key completely redundant.

       2. Lost, stolen or loaned keys or cards

Key cards, key fobs, and the humble key are allocated to individuals or a particular person based on their role and the access they're granted. This means that they shouldn't be loaned out, and they should be reported should they be lost or stolen.

       3. Levering doors

All the above assumes a mistake of some kind, but what if the door is removed from its hinges to gain access? Proper doors need to be fitted to make it difficult for even the most determined criminal to gain access.

How can a trained security guard help?

CSS Ltd can help reduce the risk of unauthorised access with two of our fundamental services:

  • Door supervision

This service does exactly what it says on the tin! Having a trained security guard on the door can check identification and ensure only the right people are allowed into the building.

  • Keyholding

Leaving your key with a trusted security guard will eliminate the issue of loaning keys amongst staff members. Instead, you have a dedicated keyholding service, on hand 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

For more information on how our security guards can assist you and your business prevent unauthorised access to your building, please don't hesitate to contact a member of the team. We look forward to hearing from you.
