It's tradition to start the New Year with a list of resolutions, and with this not only being a new year but a new decade, you had better think of some good ones and really try to stick them! Perhaps you'll want to prioritise time at the gym in your lunch break, signing up for a new membership? Or maybe you want to travel more, or perhaps spend more time with friends and family. As you can see, many popular New Year's resolutions include working out that all-important work-life balance, and that could mean spending more time out of the office or off-site. This makes it all the more important to assess your security needs and prioritise the security of your business as one of your more important New Year Resolutions.

1. Conduct a thorough risk assessment

Businesses change over time, whether that's growing, shrinking, changing location or altering the product or services it provides. This means that your security needs will change too, and it's often something that gets overlooked. Look closely at your business premises, your opening hours and even your staff turnover. All of these should be factored in when conducting a thorough risk assessment of your company. What are your weak links? If you're unsure, we would be more than happy to discuss your options with you and offer our experienced advice on how to ensure the security of your business and its assets.

2. Choose a trusted contractor that provides quality security

Next is to do your research. You'll want a security provider that can work within your budget, clearly explain their procedures to you and offer the right security service. This could include manned guarding, CCTV, mobile patrols, alarm response or door supervisors. A great way to know that you're going to receive a consistently highly trained, quality security service is discussing whether or not that company sub-contracts. We never subcontract, and in doing so we invest heavily in our staff, build great relationships with our security officers and can, therefore, be confident that our team represent our company with an impeccable security service.

3. Train your current staff on updated security procedures

The final step would be to inform your current staff of the new security procedures. This would firstly involve making them aware of any mobile patrols or manned guarding you've arranged to have in place, for example. Next, it would involve highlighting the importance of locking windows and doors, setting alarms upon exiting the building, and being careful not to share alarm codes, key fobs or keys to the building, as all of these represent a high-security risk to your company.

For more information on how we can work with you to provide a quality security service at your business, please don't hesitate to get in touch with a member of our team. No matter where you are in the country, we'll be able to assist, as we offer a national security service with a local touch.

Alternatively, if you're looking to further your career within the security industry, please check the careers section on our website or email us an up to date copy of your C.V. We never subcontract our staff, we invest in their training and we work hard to support our staff. We look forward to meeting you.
