It has now been almost a year since COVID-19 first hit the headlines here in the UK. Since then, we've seen a number of lockdowns, the introduction of social distancing and most recently, the release of several vaccines, full of promise.
The winter of 2020 took a shocking turn, with coronavirus peaking once again, and with it, taking the lives of so many loved ones too soon. It's been an incredibly difficult time for everyone, and it's now just as important as ever to follow government guidance in what's hoped to be the final push before we slowly return to normality.
As keyworkers, we're proud to have supported local businesses in ensuring their security -- especially those in the hospitality industry where buildings have been left empty and closed for months of the time. As with all businesses, we have had to adapt, and one such example of this is with the introductions and training of Carter Solutions and Services COVID-19 marshals.
A direct quote from the government website, describes the role of a COVID-19 marshal --
The role of COVID-19 secure marshals or equivalents is not to enforce COVID-19 regulations or have any enforcement powers, which should remain the remit of the police and designated local authority compliance and enforcement officers. COVID-19 secure marshals or equivalents should instead engage, explain and encourage best practice and national COVID-19 secure guidance.
This means that COVID-19 marshals have had varying responsibilities including:
- Directing pedestrians
- Providing information
- Cleaning touchpoints
- Preventing mixing between groups
- Being a point of contact for information on government guidelines
The majority of the population are well aware of the reasons for keeping their distance and engaging only in essential travel, but unfortunately, in the fight against such a prevalent virus, it only takes a minority to ruin the hard work of others. This is why COVID-19 marshals are so important.
Being able to advise members of the public on the ever-changing and sometimes quite complicated guidance set by the government, and explaining the differences between the tier systems when they were in practice, helps to ensure a higher level of understanding to those unsure or perhaps, unconvinced.
